Davidson County Child Care Landscape Study

Phase I Executive Summary

Presented by Raising Readers Nashville

Collected and analyzed by the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center at Vanderbilt University

Funded by United Way of Greater Nashville

As the second most populous county in Tennessee, more than 700,000 people call Davidson County home. Families who live in Davidson County have a wide range of jobs, incomes, racial and ethnic identities, and needs and preferences for their families. As such, their needs and preferences for child care may vary, too.

To understand variation in supply of and demand for child care across Davidson County and the surrounding areas, Raising Readers Nashville has partnered with Dr. Cynthia Osborne and the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center at Vanderbilt University Peabody College of Education and Human Development to conduct the Davidson County Child Care Landscape Study. Phase I of the study examines child care supply and population metrics that inform demand at the local level across the county. This executive summary offers the five key takeaways from Phase I of the study.
